FOOD

There is no doubt what so ever that fish and molluscs rule supreme on dinner tables in the Po Delta, typical dishes that come from hundreds of years of tradition and families dedicated to fishing. Rice from the Delta has been awarded the IGT recognition, vegetables, chicory “di Chioggia” IGP, sea bass and eels from the Delta, clams from Polesine, pink oysters and Scardovari mussels DOP, fertile land and snails are just some of the delights of the largest wetland in Italy. Last but not least, do not forget to try the Comacchio valleys renowned eels and the famous “moeche”, crabs caught, as they shed their soft shells.

WINE

The Po Delta is certainly not famous for its wines, giving space in this area to the near-by Euganean Hills with their volcanic soil, but in recent years experiments have been made to re-evaluate native and local vines. Some first class wine producers started in the Bosco Eliceo area, in the Delta Ferrarese, where the well-known wines of the sand are produced, named after the sandy soil on which the vines grow, one of the best examples is Fortana – with its versions of still, sparkling and rosé.

THE PROJECT

Starting this year, a collaboration has formed with the Ca ‘Foscari University of Venice with a master in The Culture of Food and Wine, to enhance the Island’s Capo Nord and the Golf Hotel’s offer. Menus and events have been developed together with the students to enhance the service and above all to unite it to the territory, allowing guests to try the local excellences of the Po Delta and Veneto region. A true sensory experience in the flavours of this very special area of Italy.
