THINGS TO DO IN THE PO DELTA

The Po Delta is the youngest land in Italy, created thanks to the sediment carried incessantly by the River Po which here, branches out into distributaries that flow into the sea creating the characteristic lagoons. It is one of the largest wetlands in Europe. It is a unique ecosystem, to be visited calmly and silently so as to respect the nature and its fauna, made up of hundreds of permanent and migratory bird species. One of the most popular activities in fact, is bird watching, in addition to fishing: an activity with a long tradition that will bring to your dinner table such delights as mussels, clams and the pink Delta oysters.

EXCURSIONS IN THE DELTA

  • One of the most characteristic ways to visit the Po Delta is on a boat trip. The Marino Cacciatori Company based in Porto Tolle takes care of that, it has a fleet of motorboats, flat-bottomed boats and catamarans, suitable for navigating even the most shallow of waters such as those found in the lagoons and in the estuary areas. Visitors, aboard the flagship Venere or a small flat-bottomed boat, will be able to navigate the reeds to discover the Po’s most striking bights or the flocks of herons that nest in this area.
