Adria is the gate to the Lower Polesine Area: it is around 20 km away from the sea it gave its name to. The territory of the municipality of Adria stretches over a wide area in the middle of the province of Rovigo, on the strip of flat land marked by the rivers Po and Adige. The area is crossed by the Canal Bianco, a navigable channel leading directly to the Adriatic Sea and, through pond locks, to the rivers Po and Adige.
Adria is a lively small town located on the banks of Canal Bianco. Its Riviera is something remarkable. The Palazzo dell’Orologio and the Cathedral on Piazza Castello are interesting buildings worth a visit. Adria has been the bishop seat of a diocese for a thousand years. Adria can also boast a National Archeological Museum where tools and ceramics dating back to the iron age, Attic red and black vases, pieces of jewellery and other furnishings are put on display. The State Music Conservatory dedicated to Antonio Buzzola, important local musician, testifies to the past music and theatre history of the town.
